Ladies and gentlemen,
We would now like to announce the scholarships and special prizes for this year’s Festival.
Anna Glynn had a very successful week and has been awarded the Nell Holmes Memorial Prize, the Dorothy Milne scholarship and the Kathleen Ridings Memorial Scholarship for her successes in pianoforte and violin. She and her sister Polly won the Warrilow trophy for their win in the Piano Duet.
Six promising boys and girls have been awarded the M.L. Wood scholarship for most promising instrumental performances and they are Oscar Lace, Peter Smith, Toby Crossley, Grace Templar, Louise Van de Merwe and Samuel Hills-Field.
Gaynor Keeble was pleased to single out Neil Taverner for the new Ken Cringle Memorial Award for Most Promisiong Baritone. The equivalent for the Tenor voice goes to Alistair Qualtrough.
Deborah Gooding attracted attention as a very promising Mezzo-Soprano and was awarded the Brian Gelling Memorial Training Scholarship.
Jane Corkill’s memorable solo in the Ensemble class has won her the Margaret Lane Award for Singing.
The Douglas Buxton Scholarship for Most Promising Voice goes to Gemma Varnom as does the Mary Purcell Black and LTC Corlett prize for overall winner of the General Vocal Solo class.
The equivalent under -18 scholarship presented in memory Mrs B. Eastwood goes to Nathalie Nixon.
The Emily Christian prize for promising keyboard player has been awarded to Annabel King and the Bob Crennell Memorial Scholarship for Brass Solo under 16s goes to Isabel Nutter.
The most promising Girls Solo award as presented by Noah Moore Scholarship is won by Hannah Clinton.
And finally, the Heather Nichol Award for best all round performer of music goes to Anna Radcliffe.
The Festival organisers will be coming together in July to discuss a rationalization of the scholarships and if anyone would like to suggest new approaches please write to the Secretary.
