Mavis Kelly Tribute
Saturday, 20th May at Peel Cathedral. This is a must date for your diary. Mavis's great friend Eleanor Shimmin is arranging a tribute concert to celebrate Mavis's musical accomplishments. Eleanor hopes that it will include all Cleveland Medallists singing together as a group plus various other items. Some of Mavis's own compositions and arrangements will be featured.

   Eric Tebbett Workshop
The following event has now taken place successfully.

Eri-c Tebbett will hold vocal classes at The Studio Theatre, Ballakermeen High School, Douglas on February 4th and 5th.
Eric studied singing at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and has performed throughout Europe and America and on radio and television.
His CDs include "Light in the Darkness" and "Quintessentially English" and he was the chorus director of Central Festival Opera and has performed with Ely Cathedral Choir and Bath Camerata.
He has judged competitions throughout the world including the Hong Kong Festival and this year's schedule will take him to America, Jamaica and New Zealand. He is the chairman of the adjudicating panel for the finals of the National Festival of Music for the youth choir, orchestral and brass band sections and is a member of the Royal Society of Musicians of Great Britain.
Eric, the conductor and examiner for Trinity College in London, was recently awarded an honorary fellowship of Trinity College of Music.
There will be three sessions of two hours each commencing at 10:30 am and 2 pm on Saturday 4th and 2 pm on Sunday 5th. All sessions are open to the general public.

   Miss Mavis Kelly
Miss Mavis Kelly, a long serving committee member, former competitor and official accompanist, and one of the Island's best-loved musicians died in Noble's Hospital on December 22nd aged 79. She had been unwell for some time. Mavis served as an official accompanist at the Guild for 25 years. She was a skilled singer, pianist, teacher, organist, choir mistress and music arranger. She began teaching piano at the age of 17 and continued right to the end. She formed a choir, Ushag Ving, whose members met for a reunion last year. She was accompanist and arranger for the Raven Singers, Northern Lights, Cushag Choir, Ramsey Male Choir and the Lon Dhoo Choir and organist at the old Loch Parade Church, Douglas and latterly at the Christian Science Church, Douglas. This year she enjoyed a holiday in the Norwegian fjords with friend and fellow musician Eleanor Shimmin, who said: "Mavis was a deeply spiritual person. She thought things through very deeply and had a wonderful outlook on life. She was a wonderful friend." Mavis's contribution to the Festival was invaluable and she will be greatly missed.
